About Kari

Kari has always loved houseplants. There is a truly magical quality about them! To think that we can have a small piece of nature’s jungles living right beside us with their incredible colors, shapes and vigor is so wonderful.

When she was young, her little brother Matthew had a heart condition. They were new to North Carolina, and their neighbors did all they could to help her family every time Matthew had a procedure. They had wagons of food, cut flowers and plants. She noticed long after the food and flowers were gone, the plants remained. The library taught her their names, and soon after she was going to greenhouses like other girls went to the mall. Plants became her comfort and her joy. Even through college, she picked up wandering jew branches that had fallen in the grocery store to take home to root.

After graduating from ASU, she married her husband Jim and they built our own Greenhouse in their backyard. Jim’s Grandmother Liliie Belle helped them. She was such a great teacher. She could grow anything! They started to sell plants, but soon realized that you don’t want the general public in your backyard.

They started Green Scenes Indoor Landscaping in 1995 with one client. Their motto is ,” We do all of the work, and you receive all of the compliments.” They waited tables and bartended and did whatever they could to grow. With persistence they grew and are now blessed to have over 18 clients in the Triad. Each of their plants is cared for organically, and their cherished clients also trust them to provide the finest seasonal decor including live poinsettias.

Peddling Plants just opened this summer. They sell high quality houseplants at Food Truck Fridays, apartments and other venues. It’s a way to also educate people about how to enhance their world with beautiful plants. Each plant comes with an information sticker and free advice!

Kari says "So much has been given to me, I feel it’s time to give back to the plant lovers around me and share what I’ve learned from both my plants and friends."
